As many as 100 species go extinct every day. How many have we even failed to identify? How many could we prevent?
How many are we responsible for?
Joel Sartore is a National Geographic photographer, and his new book RARE puts a face on the anonymously endangered. And this is just in North America. You can get copies here, and also see more photos.
Sometimes you have to stare a problem with in its cute/scary/nonexistent face in order to take action.

HBICs of history » Queen Victoria
Victoria (1819-1901) Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India. The only child of Edward, duke of Kent, she succeeded her uncle in 1837. She was first guided as queen by the Whig prime minister Lord Melbourne and then by her husband, Prince Albert, whom she married in 1840. Devoted to him, she accepted his decisions on all issues in the period sometimes called the Albertine monarchy. They had nine children, through whose marriages descended many of the royal families of Europe. From 1861 Victoria deeply mourned Albert’s death and thereafter made royal decisions as she believed he would have advised. She was frequently at odds with Prime Minister William E. Gladstone and welcomed his replacement by Benjamin Disraeli in 1874. Her reign, called the Victorian Age, was marked by a period of British expansion and a restoration of dignity and popularity to the monarchy, as shown by her Jubilees of 1887 and 1897. She remains the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

I bought unfinished wood book ends today at Hobby Lobby to decorate. Books take you to places you might not ever get a chance to go to in real life. I want my bookshelf to reflect that.
[EDIT:] They’re called Enchanted Fairy Doors and they are made by DME. I bought mine at my local Hobby Lobby in Indiana. You can buy them online though. You can find the one on the left here and you can find the one on the right here. Also, you can buy finished ones here but I’m not sure how reliable that site is and whatnot. I’m glad you all love them as much as I do.
